Farewell AZ...

Last ditch effort to cling to the vacation vibe.  Lots of love and thanks to my mom and Dave for a great trip!!  XOXO

And this is what happens when my mom and I try to take a picture together...

Wild horses...couldn't drag me away...

Sadly, we need to leave for the airport in an hour, but we snuck in a desert walk!  It was simply dazzling out.  65 degrees, light breeze, and the most beautiful desert views.  We were is search of some wild horses that run about in Tonto National Forest, but alas, only saw poop.

It was still an amazing walk and a great way to end our trip!!

Last day - rinse and repeat.

Fifth day, same as the first!

Walk, breakfast, laundry.  But today we pack!  For tonight we leave...

Not sure what we'll do between now and 5pm when we head to the airport.  Drink, read, eat, laundry probably.

"In the Dark"

Chris and I listened to a new podcast this week on our walks and on our way to Prescott, called "In the Dark."  It is a review of the Jacob Wetterling case and how law enforcement handled it.

It was really really good:  shocking, chest achingly sad, profoundly impacting.

I would recommend it if you are into that kind of thing, but be warned, have tissues ready.

Saturday - not much of anything...

Saturday was full of lazy wonderful nothing too.

We got up...went for a walk...did laundry...played cards...finished my book...a repeat of our earlier three days, really.

We did hit 2 new breweries last night in Mesa and Tempe.

The first was Huss Brewing - I was underwhelmed, but Chris thought the IPAs were pretty solid.

Then we went to the Beer Research Institute, and they (despite the dumb name) had some really good beers, and even more awesome food!  And the server/bartender was this adorbs British guy with cute mismatched socks that called me darling.  How could it not be amazing?

Prescott!

Road trip!  Went to Prescott today, to visit Superstition Meadery.  SO GOOD.  And I don't even like mead that much.

We did the 12 flight sampler, then the 3 flight sampler of their Berry White Chocolate meads - whoa.  Amazing.  So we got 8 bottles...and then they said, "You know you get a 10% discount if you buy 12."  Challenge accepted!!!

We did our mead extraction thing:  drive 2 hours, stay 2 hours, drive home 2 hours.   This is what professionals do people.

Day trip! Prescott...

On the advice of the sage MW, we are heading up to Prescott for a day trip to visit Superstition Meadery.  There is also Prescott Brewing Company adjacent, and it is a cute little town.

We might visit some breweries on our way back in the Phoenix area.

Pictures from the meadery later...

Another day of nothing...

Thursday was again a day filled with nothing.  Which was great!

Chris golfed (don't ask about how he did), and my mom and I went shopping.  A little Container Store, a little Costco, a little Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Came home...read...then dinner at Pinnacle Grille - yummy!!

That's it.

Lazy days filled with booze...

Yesterday was filled with laziness.  And naps.  And drinks.  And reading.  And going to bed at 9:30.

We started the day with a walk and general hanging around, then an exciting trip to Safeway for groceries.

Drinks started late afternoon:

Then sunset:

Then more drinks:

Then this truly heinous Stroopwafel imitation liqueur that apparently is supposed to taste like Stroopwafel cookies from Holland.  I gagged when I smelled it - it was like a combination of wet cardboard and caramel and sugar.  It didn't taste as bad as it smelled, but it tasted pretty bad.  I'm not really sure what anyone would do with it??  Well my parents now have an almost full bottle of it.  Maybe they can serve it when someone loses a bet.

Ah...Arizona...

Back in AZ with the parents for a 5 day break from the ridiculous of work.  Got in last night, and after a run to the liquor store, we settled in.

Chris and Dave went to the driving range, and now we are off to Safeway!  This is the boring life I want.

Here is the plan for the next 5 days:

  • Eat & Drink
  • Read 2 books
  • Golf
  • Day trip to Prescott to hit Superstition Meadery (thanks MW for the tip!)
  • Drinking
  • Eating
  • Breweries
  • Probably Safeway again
  • Drink
I think that sounds reasonable.
