Six years ago when we came to Paris, we stayed on the Rue Cler, a simply lovely little shopping and cafe lined street in Paris not far from the Eiffle Tower. We came back. And it was wonderful.
We stopped at Cafe Central and had beers. Everyone ordered a large, and I ordered a small. They came out and the large were ridiculous. The waiter actually was laughing and pointed to my small beer and said, "Alors?!?" then made a motion to shoo me out of the cafe. Hystercial!! See below ridiculously large beers.
We stayed there for probably an hour, just soaking up the sun and the breeze and ... well, and Paris. There is nothing like it.
We then wandered across the street for a bottle of champagne, eclairs, and macarons for our Eiffel Tower visit. No cups, no napkins. Just a bottle of booze, and desserts.
We walked over the the Eiffel Tower. And let me tell you, if you've never seen it, it is wondrous. Strip back all the hype, and tourism, and people, and you know what? It's a pretty goddamn amazing feat of engineering from 150 years ago. And it IS Paris to me. We headed to the park, and sat on a little bench together and you know what we did? We drank that champagne right out of the bottle, and ate those eclairs (pistachio and passion fruit/chocolate), and ate those macarons. And it was simply delightful. I highly recommend it.
