Anne Frank, Pancakes, and Beer

We started our day with a visit to the Anne Frank House. It was incredible and moving and so sad. They do an amazing job, and even have the originals of a few of her diaries that ended up as the published work. That was the most sad part for me, seeing her diaries in her own handwriting and knowing that she died a month before Bergen-Belsen was liberated. I'm so glad we went. See first picture - that is the house.

We then came back and took a nap as is our style, then went out for a late lunch at the Pancake Bakery. We each got a savory pancake that is like a thick crepe filled with stuff. Mine was ham, cheese, and mushrooms; Chris got chicken, cheese, and onions. And did I mention they were the size of manhole covers?? They were so very tasty. Definitely try them if you are here.

After that we went for a walk through the flower market, and I debated getting some tulip bulbs shipped home. Then I remembered I hate gardening, can't grow anything but hostas in our yard, and would be pissed when they died if I spent 35 Euro shipping them home. So I got two fantastic original etchings of scenes of Amsterdam instead!

After that we went over to Gollem, a beer bar, and apparently when the sign says you open at 16:00, that is just a suggestion. So we went back to Beer Temple and played cards for a few hours and drank beer. Awesome again. See the second picture. Then took our time getting back to our apartment and took a few pictures of the typical canal houses here. See the third picture.

Last pic - our standard self portrait.
